
Victory at Sea: Hiei
The Kongō-class battleship Hiei joined Kirishima and six Japanese fast carriers of the First Air Fleet Striking Force (Akagi, Kaga, Sōryū, Hiryū, Shōkaku, and Zuikaku) where it would participate in the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.
Hiei saw extensive action in the Pacific at Kavieng, Rabaul, the Gilbert & Marshall Islands, Midway, Guadalcanal and the Santa Cruz islands amongst others. She was lost off Guadalcanal – disabled after taking hits from fifty or more shells, and finally sunk by air-launched torpedoes.
