Victory at Sea - Karlsruhe

Victory at Sea - Karlsruhe

Sometimes called the K-class, these vessels were built to limits specified in the Treaty of Versailles. However, this had an impact on their structural integrity, and they did not endure long-distance voyages as well as had been hoped. The unusual triple three-gun turret design was also the result of keeping within the weight limits specified by the treaty, but clever positioning of the rear turrets virtually eliminated any drawbacks. Karlsruhe was both lost during the invasion of Norway in April 1940, being sunk by the British submarine HMS Truant.
