Even to have a few men able to move rapidly from one threatened area to another can make a big difference. To this end British and commonwealth infantry battalions often landed in Normandy with an entire company equipped with Bikes! Besides that, locally “borrowed” examples could be ideal for Tommy Atkins to get through with that vital message! Never forget that the mighty Wehrmacht stripped Holland bare of bikes in ’44-’45 in order to maintain some tactical mobility!
